Professional profile: Robert W. Higgason
Robert W. Higgason is an attorney in private practice in The Woodlands, Texas, a community 30 miles north of Houston. Before opening his own firm, Mr. Higgason practiced law with two national law firms and with a small appellate specialty firm in Houston. In addition, he has served as a briefing attorney and research attorney for the First Court of Appeals in Houston.
Mr. Higgason has represented plaintiffs and defendants, appellants and appellees, individuals and major corporations. He has handled cases in various trial courts in Texas, along with several Texas courts of appeals and the Supreme Court of Texas, as well as the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the Fourth Circuit.
Mr. Higgason has long been active in the Houston Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. He has served for several years on the editorial board of the HBA's award-winning bimonthly bar journal, The Houston Lawyer, including two terms as an associate editor. He is also a former associate editor of The Appellate Lawyer, a quarterly publication of the HBA Appellate Section. In addition, he served as a contributing editor to the Guide to the New Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure (1997), published by the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section.
Mr. Higgason has also served for several years on the HBA's Law and the Media Committee, including a term as chairman. This inter-professional committee, consisting of attorneys and media representatives, presents an annual seminar on topics addressing the interplay of the law with various aspects of the media.
Mr. Higgason has published a number of legal articles on matters of both procedural and substantive law. He has spoken on topics including the use of science in the courtroom and the distinction between tort and contract in business litigation.
He is a Fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation and a Distinguished Fellow of the Texas Justice Foundation.
Mr. Higgason received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center. He also received a Master of Arts in philosophy from the University of Houston. His undergraduate degree is from Houston Baptist University.
